PORTSMOUTH — For the second year in a row, Rumford resident and now St. Andrew’s School senior Ethan Zexter captured the Southeastern New England (SENE) private school league individual golf championship, the city resident carding a medalist total of just three-over par 71 Thursday, May 16, at The Carnegie Abbey Club.
Zexter was six shots better than Wheeler’s Matt Dwyer, the runner-up with an 80. Another East Providence resident, Providence Country Day senior Andrew Rockwell, finished in a share of third place with an 84. Teammates Thomas Kellogg (86) and Tim Malo (88) finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Joe Jenkins, also of St. Andrew’s, finished 10th after shooting a 92.
Form held close in the team ranks as regular season champion Wheeler, which finished undefeated at 9-0 in matches, won the postseason championship Thursday with a combined score of 344.
Dwyer and PCD, third in the regular season ranks with a 6-3 record, leapfrogged St. Andrew’s into second place Thursday with a 353 score. Zexter led the Saints, second in the regular season at 8-2, to a third-place finish Thursday with a 367 team total.
Marianapolis was fourth with a 386, Rocky Hill fifth with a 453 and St. Thomas More sixth with a 521.
Also of note, Zexter, Dwyer, Rockwell and Kellogg each earned first-team All-League honors.
