After battling through two overtimes in Wednesday’s semi-final field hockey game against Lincoln School, the Barrington Eagles will, once again, vie to become state champions on Sunday when they face D1 South rivals, and defending state champions, Moses Brown.
During the semifinal match, the Eagles and the Lynx remained scoreless throughout the two halves, sending the game into three, 10 minute overtime periods, whittling the field of players on each team to 5.
With less than 20 seconds left in the third overtime, a shot by the Eagles’ Jillian May was blocked by the Lincoln goalie and slapped into the net by Katelyn McMahon to end the game with a 1-0 win.
Lincoln’s goalie made 18 saves by the Eagles’ determined offense, while Barrington’s goalie, Sophie Faxon, had to make only three saves on goal.
Moses Brown made it into the semifinal game by beating East Greenwich, 1-0.
The Rhode Island State Championship game will take place on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Roger Williams University at 2 p.m.
This will be the second time this season that Barrington, who finished the regular season 15-0-1 in Division 1 North will face Moses Brown who finished their season 13-0-3 in Division 1 South. Barrington’s undefeated seasonal record was upset when they last faced Moses Brown on Oct. 8, tying the game at 1. In last year’s state championship game, Moses Brown beat Barrington 2-1.
