Double-digit scoring helps Tiverton boys take first hoops win

The Tiverton High School boys’ basketball team had something to celebrate on Friday, Jan. 17, posting their first win of the season against Shea High School of Pawtucket.

The Tigers’ held a close 31-28 lead at the half, with both teams adding about the same points in the second half of the game for Tiverton’s 67-57 victory.

Tom Murray led his team in scoring for the night, posting 17 points, including a three-pointer and four of his seven free throws. Four Tiverton players scored in double-digits for the Tigers – Murray, with his 17; Isaiah Lopes, 16; Nate Johanning, 12; Jake Rapoza, 11.

Lopes added one three point shot and went 50 percent for his 10 free throw attempts.

Alex Cotton also contributed to the win, posting nine points.

 

The win puts the boys’ team at 1-5 in Division 2 East after posting a 71-59 loss to West Warwick on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The Tigers faced Tolman on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and are scheduled to host Cumberland on Friday, Jan. 24, looking to add more wins to their league record.
