Barrington boys best East Providence, Portsmouth for Eastern Division outdoor track title

BARRINGTON — Host Barrington High School emerged from a trio of teams that shared the regular season title to win the 2013 Eastern Division Boys’ Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet Tuesday, May 7, at the Eagles’ Victory Field.

Barrington, which shared first place in dual meets with East Providence and Portsmouth, tallied 193.5 points Tuesday. East Providence was second with 154.5 and Portsmouth third with 131.

Barrington strongman Charlie Ionata has his usual productive day in the throws, winning four events. Ionata took the shot, discus and javelin, and tossed the 12-pound hammer a winning 225 feet, 4 inches (68.68 meters), a new meet mark.
Tom Barry, the Eagle senior distance man, broke two meet records. Barry clocked 4:09.5 to win the 1500, breaking a nine-year-old standard set by Barrington’s Tom Webb. In the 800, Berry went 1:58.1 to post another Eastern Division record. Barry’s new time eliminated am 11 year-old record (1:59.1) set by Shea’s Emanual Karngor.
Also in the Eastern meet, the Townies’ Ryan Williams won the 100 (11.2) and the 200 (23.2) while his East Providence mate Chris Moura won both the long and triple jumps. Moura also ran a leg of the Townies’ 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays.

For Portsmouth, Juston von Heinegg (400 meters), Jalen Perry (300 high hurdles) and Josh Mostert (pole vault) each claimed solo wins.

Mt. Hope’s Jacob Silva collected an individual victory for the Huskies, winning the 110-meter hurdles.
