Matt Hurley hit two home runs and led the Barrington Little League Majors Division all-stars to a 13-5 victory over Darlington American at Slater Park in Pawtucket on Monday night.
Barrington earned the District II title with the win and will next play in the state tournament, which begins later this week.
Colin Scorpio, the starting pitcher for Barrington, retired Darlington batters in order in the first inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Jake Studley, Matt Hurley and Michael Pfeffer each drove in runs to put Barrington ahead, 3-0.
Darlington scored two in the top of the second inning, but Barrington responded in the bottom of the second with three runs. Matt Hurley knocked in two runs with a single up the middle, while Cabot Maher singled in Hurley.
Darlington’s Kyle DePatie homered in the top of the third, making the score 6-3. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when Barrington exploded for six runs. Hurley and Chase Griffin each blasted two-run homers, while Maher and Tucker Flint each drove in single runs.
Darlington picked up two runs in the top of the fifth, but Hurley stroked his second home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Zeleznik finished the game on the mound for Barrington.
