Robert Kiser III breaks free for a third quarter touchdown, Tiverton’s lone score of the day.

TIVERTON — Tiverton’s football team endured a disappointing home opener Saturday when East Greenwich handed the Tigers a 28-6 loss.

The matchup of  Division III teams was close for awhile as Tiverton held East Greenwich to a single touchdown and trailed just 7-0. Still, Tiverton’s offense had few answers for a powerful East Greenwich defensive front line.

But in the second half, East Greenwich  let loose with 21 more points — two touchdowns in the third quarter and one in the fourth quarter.

Tiverton’s offensive highlight of the morning came when Robert Kiser III broke free for a 15-yard touchdown run with 4:54 left in the third quarter to cut the East Greenwich lead to 21-6.

Tiverton, now 1-2, travels to Classical for a noon matchup on Saturday.
