The girls hockey team was down against a strong St. George’s team but refused to give up Monday, scoring three goals in the third period. Still it was not enough as the Abbey lost 7-3. With just over 9 minutes to go in the game, Sally Hoerr fed the puck to Maddy McCann who scored on the rush. The Ravens scored again just over a minute later when Hoerr rushed the puck and fed it across the slot to McCann who was crashing the net and hammered it home for her second of the game. The With 4:16 left in the game Sarah Sienkiewicz beat the goalie with a shot from the top of the circle. Goalie Ally Tessier made 63 saves.
•The Ravens lost 53-23 to a tough St. George’s team in Middletown on Monday as the Dragons got off to quick 13-0 lead. The Ravens only scored 9 first half points. But in the second half, the Ravens held the Dragons to 19 points; they were also a little better on the offensive end. Claire Ritch was the team’s leading scorer with 7 points. She hit 2 buckets and one 3-pointer. Ayanna Sommers chipped in with 4 points, 5 blocked shots and 4 rebounds. Ann Gallagher also scored 4 points and finished with 10 rebounds (seven of them on the offensive end).
• Chris Reynolds and Austin Kreinz scored two points in their final game verses St. George’s, a 7-4 loss. The young Ravens continued to make an impact as Jack Murphy had 2 assists, Josh Vertentes scored a power play goal and Ben Quick added an assist.
• The Ravens’ boys basketball teamplayed hard but had too many empty possessions in the second half to get a win against St. George’s, losing 65-53 Monday. Fletcher Bonin, Teddy Fenton and Coleman Clark each scored in double figures while Sheamus O’Connor scored 6 points and was excellent on the boards.
• The boys’ squash team defeated Barrington High School 6-1. Winning matches for the Abbey were Andrew Lowis, Cam Buettner, Ander Guerenabarrena, Mike Brown, Matt Fonts, and Chris Baughan.
The JV team defeated Barrington High School 5-1, with victories by Peter Vergara, Sean Crandall, Mike Galuska, Michael Soh, and Frank Loughran.
• In a squash tri-meet at Pomfret Wednesday, the Abbey girls came away with a win and a loss. They beat Lincoln 6-1, but fell to Pomfret in a close match 7-0. Getting wins against Lincoln were Claire Davidson, Camila Fernandez, Annette Monheim, Hannah Niles, Hadley Matthews and Hannah Lynch.
