LINCOLN — The Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy Class of 2018-I held its graduation ceremony recently at the Community College of Rhode Island Flanagan Campus in Lincoln where four future members of the East Providence Police Department received their certifications.
A total of 53 police recruits representing 23 police departments throughout Rhode Island graduated the academy, marking its 130th commencement ceremony.
East Providence Police Department graduates included Michael Akinrola, Jesen L. Faiteau, Ryan A. Medeiros and Michael J. Rosa II.
The recruits earned their certification after 20 weeks of training. The curriculum included 950 hours of training in physical fitness, first responder duties, Rhode Island General Laws, Rhode Island Motor Vehicle Code, report writing, firearms instruction, emergency vehicle operations, domestic violence/sexual assault, crash investigation, basic crime scene investigation, standardized field sobriety testing, mental health first aid, de-escalation techniques, active shooter situations, use of force, community policing, civil liability, fair and impartial policing and hate crimes.
