Thanks very much for your common-sense approach, there are many in town and on the Bristol Recycles Committee who agree with you, yet we feel we must first try to educate and motivate our non-compliant neighbors. I'm confident that "no bin, no barrel" will be mandated if we're unsuccessful. There will be no choice economically for the town council to go! Frankly, I like a challenge and this is a good one. We'll be placing a barometer somewhere prominently in town soon to track our progress, so we'll all be able to see whether our efforts are succeeding or not. Goal: 35% by 1/1/15.

Until proven otherwise, I remain optimistic.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
