I was among the first students at the new JRD Oldham School in the early 1950's. There were four classrooms and a kindergarten room. Miss Libramento was the principal and she may have been the 4th grade tracher as well. Miss Barker was my 2nd grade teacher. Everyone was so proud to be attending this wonderful new school. There was no lunchroom, that I can recall, and everyone went home for lunch. Mr. Ballard was the janitor. Miss Barker brought her black and white TV to school one day so we could watch the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. I have driven by many times over the years and have watched the deterioration. I guess Oldham School has seen better days and tme to close the doors.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
