Meadowcrest got the shaft plain and simple!! Oldham parents were able to attend a public meeting and voice their concerns. Oldham parents raised a stink about the losing Title 1 funding and equipment, and it was decided to move Oldham to Meadowcrest and kick out the little students at Meadowcrest shipping them to Waddington. Afterall Meadowcrest does not have a big population and they are just little kids! Meadowcrest parents were not given a meeting to voice their concerns. They were notified with one days notice of a meeting held at Waddington at 4pm Wednesday! I surely hope that the Meadowcrest students' needs can be met effectively at Waddington School, and that the school department will make the necessary accommodations for the early learning population!! Oldham School is not closing, Meadowcrest Early Learning is!

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
