I appreciate your letter and I am sure we can move forward from here. It would be great to have more residents at the budget workshops especially with a financial background. I am sure you would enjoy working with our Town Treasurer who appears to be a math wizard. He can pay our bills without any money. No, seriously, if more people attended these workshops that knew a little about math they wouldn't cut necessary positions in town and only save 2 cents on the tax rate.

And yes, I will see you at the budget meetings because I am also the $100 a year Town Sergeant.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
