Home: “I’m from Bristol, and I graduated from Mt. Hope High in 2000, got my associate’s degree at CCRI, then studied Psychology at Rhode Island College.”
Why real estate: “I was in property management for several years, initially for a Massachusetts company and later for one in Rhode Island. They required me to get a real estate license. That was when I realized that real estate was a perfect fit, and what I wanted to do. Seeing people happy is truly rewarding, it is the best part of the job. I try to put myself in my clients’ shoes and treat them how I would want to be treated.”
Family: “I’m getting married to Sergio Sousa on July 13th, in Newport. He’s the marketing director at Twin River. We met in school, in a children’s literature class. I think he thought that would be an easy way to get through his literature requirement! We are going to Aruba for our honeymoon, two days after the wedding. We’ve already purchased our first home, it was a short sale, in Barrington. The renovations are just about finished, so yeah, it has been a busy year.”
My favorite sale: “One of them would have to be when I sold a house to my fiancé’s brother and his wife. Sergio and his brother owned a house in Cumberland that was completely destroyed in that devastating flood in 2010. They lost everything. It was a very hard time — Sergio moved in with me and my parents, while his brother moved in with his fiancé, and they married. I was able to get them into this great house in Lincoln, where they now live with their beautiful little daughter.”
Free time: “I love to run through Colt State Park with my dog Ty, spending time with my family, and date night every Wednesday night. We love trying all the new restaurants in the area, and we just tried the new one in Barrington, where Chiazza used to be. It was great. I also like to run 5k road races, in the good weather. I just signed up for a 10-mile race in Newport at the end of April. That is definitely outside my comfort zone!
“I love to read, especially for professional development. I’m currently reading The One Thing by Gary Keller. It’s about changing your mindset, focusing on the most important priority. I’m going to hear him speak in Boston next month, and really looking forward to it. And my favorite thing to make? Definitely sangria. It’s going to be the signature drink at our reception. For once I won’t be mixing it there, but I will definitely be tasting.”
Best advice for clients: “As a seller, marketing & price is key. When pricing my client’s home, a professional market analysis is done, and marketing techniques are put into place to market their home. Learning the motivating factors for my client, and working on a time line to help my client make a transition that works for them, adds to a smooth transaction. Working with buyers, I like to carefully gain an understanding about their needs and preferences. My focus then becomes meeting those needs, and wants, as we explore options that fit their criteria.”
