PORTSMOUTH — A local woman was charged with driving while intoxicated Monday after calling police to report a road rage incident, police said.

At 6:30 p.m. on March 26, Portsmouth Police received numerous 911emergency calls about a vehicle that was operating erratically on East Main Road in the area of Union Street, according to Detective Lt. Michael C. Arnold

The callers told police the vehicle was swerving in traffic and striking the curbing, he said. At one point, according to witnesses, the vehicle stopped and blocked traffic in the southbound lanes of East Main Road, Lt. Arnold said.

Then, police received a call from the operator of the suspect vehicle, Molly E. White, 34, of 53 Kerr Road, who wished to report a road rage incident, he said.

When officers arrived at her location, they found the vehicle damaged and still running, Lt. Arnold said. Ms. White, however, could not explain where the damage had occurred, he said.

According to officers on the scene, Ms. White displayed “extreme signs of impairment,” he said. After conducting a field sobriety test, Ms. White was taken to the hospital where she was charged with driving under the influence, he said.

Ms. White was scheduled to be arraigned in 2nd District Court Tuesday morning.
