PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Board of Canvassers has begun preparations for the upcoming 2018 midterm primary and general elections on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and Tuesday, Nov. 6, respectively.
Here are some things to remember and important dates for candidates and voters:
• Register to vote: Verify, update records or register online at vote.ri.gov or by contacting your local Board of Canvassers.
• Candidates must register to vote by Saturday, May 26. Declarations begin on June 25.
• The last day for voters to disaffiliate is Thursday, June 14.
• The Portsmouth Canvassing office will host a Midterm Election Forum from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, in the Town Council Chambers at Town Hall, 2200 East Main Road. Topics will include important deadlines, requirements for signing and circulating nomination papers, changes to polling sites, working at the polls, and will address voter questions and concerns.
