Margaret Crosson Dunn, 93, Portsmouth

Margaret Crosson Dunn, 93, of Portsmouth, R.I. passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay. She was born on May 27, 1924 in Fall River, Mass., the daughter of the late James F. and Kathryn (Harrington) Crosson. 

Margaret “Peggy” was a 1941 graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Fall River and a 1943 graduate of LaSalle College, Newton, Mass. She was a long distance telephone operator for the Southern NE telephone company during WWII and then a medical records clerk at Truesdale Hospital in Fall River.

Peggy was married to William A. Dunn in 1951 and they settled in Stamford, Conn., where they raised their family. They were charter members of St. Gabriel’s Church, where she was active as a volunteer in the church’s women’s groups and volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels. Peggy was an accomplished pianist and loved spending time with her family and friends and working in her garden. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Peggy and Bill retired from Stamford to Portsmouth in 1984. 

Peggy is survived by her children, William A. Dunn of S. Kingstown, R.I.; James F. Dunn; Molly Dunn; Kathryn Hannabury of Dedham, Mass.; Margaret Watkins of North Smithfield, R.I.; Stephen M. Dunn of Portsmouth; and Annie Carson of Portsmouth. She is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband William, her son Timmy, and her siblings Frances A. Crosson, James F. Crosson and Ann Madden.

Calling hours were Monday, Jan. 15, at the Connors Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 16, from the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church Portsmouth.
