Letter: Arlene needs to clarify her column

To the editor:

Dear Arlene, your Barrington Times article about immigration needs some clarification.

To state that Melania Trump came into this country twice illegally is inaccurate at best!

She came in Aug. 1996 with a Tourist Visa B1/B2, which allows an immigrant to reside here six months but does not allow them to seek employment. In Oct. 1996 she obtained a H-1B Visa, which permits skilled employment. Since she was a model, this was the required law and abided by it. Quite a big difference from what we see happening at our borders today! President Trump's mother was also a legal immigrant. Quite commendable.

It is most unfortunate the liberal press spends the majority of their news time attacking policy that was in effect long before Trump ever took office. Don't like the laws? Then vote to change them. Rioting is not the correct way to obtain change.

Where was their outrage over Obama, Bush and Clinton enforcing the same existing laws? Call this reporting for what it is… fake news!

To clarify the comments President Trump made about immigrants, he was referring to the MS13 Gang hoodlums. Not families seeking asylum! Shouldn't that be explained in your column?

When I see the protests about separation of families I am amazed at the hypocrisy.

Over 2,500,000 families are separated in America today because the parent is sent to prison. Or the children growing up separate from their military parent. What about the families who have permanently lost a loved one murdered by an illegal immigrant? Not to mention the 500,000,000 babies aborted in this country! Have you heard any concern for these children even mentioned lately?

Their main agenda is to spread alarm and fear for political reasons. Period! The liberals want to oust Trump for any reason. His North Korea peace meeting was ridiculed. The lower taxes were called peanuts. Fair trade and NAFTA was condemned although we have been unfairly treated all these years. Stormy Daniels was a "paid for smear" campaign that happened over 15 years ago.

Such selective reporting only hurts the reporters in the long run. Simply put… this is an all-out attempt to discredit and harm a sitting President. We the people are informed and well-read and we see the truth.

Sign my a Constitutional supporter for law and order. Let's put a stop to this "opinion smear reporting" and return to civility.

Sincerely,

Kay Chapin
