Letter: ALT is neglecting the north side of Portsmouth

To the editor:

I have never written my opinion before but with the recent letters made on bait-and-switch, I think it is about time I share what a lot of people at (the north) end of town have been thinking and saying about Aquidneck Land Trust (ALT) for many years.

We have heard a lot about ALT receiving federal and state grants and local funding but we haven't seen any results at this end of town. ALT are always asking for money, stating all they conserve for the public.

But where are our hiking paths? Where are our public recreational areas? Where is the wildlife habitat protection? Where is our wetland protection? And where is the protection of our scenic views?

We have seen nothing in this densely populated area where we could use more open space than others at this point for our quality of life.

ALT are receiving much of our public funding through our tax dollars but there is no sign of it on the north side of Portsmouth.

ALT, a nonprofit organization, have acquired numerous properties through our tax dollars so their interest lays only on the south side. That appears very self-serving in protecting their acquired properties and major donors that live in that area. To me (us), this appears to be another bait-and-switch.

At this end of Portsmouth, and especially here in densely populated areas, we need open space and protection of the wildlife habitat and scenic views, hiking paths and public recreation, too, before it’s too late.

In this areas of town, where is the ALT that claims to be so interested in protecting and creating outdoor healthy activities?

ALT should know that we, as past donors, don't appreciate this neglect.
