PORTSMOUTH — In celebration of Earth Day, the Portsmouth Conservation Commission will host "Conservation Days" events this weekend.

On Saturday, April 28, there will be a community trash cleanup and fair at the Brown House at Glen Farm, Linden Lane.

From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants will pick up litter on the trails at Glen Farm — a map will be provided — and bring their bags of trash back to the Brown House to exchange for a chance to win a $125 gift certificate to Rail Explorers rail bikes. 

People can also bring trash they've cleaned up in their own neighborhood if they don't wish to walk the trails. There will be tables with information about local environmental efforts.

On Sunday, April 29, a program focusing on climate change in Portsmouth will run from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Portsmouth Free Public Library, 2658 East Main Road.

Portsmouth resident John McDaid will present Al Gore's “Climate Reality” slideshow. Pam Rubinoff of URI Coastal Resources Center will discuss PREP-RI, which aims to help municipal officials make effective choices supporting resilience to the impacts from climate change. 

Jennifer West of the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve will describe their work on Prudence Island. Portsmouth Town Planner Gary Crosby will discuss implications for the town's comprehensive plan. There will be open question-and-answer period and discussion.
