Alfred L. Borges, Jr., 78, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 14, 2018.

Fred was born on Feb. 16, 1940 in Fall River, Mass. to the late Alfred L. Borges, Sr. and the late Mary (Mish) Borges.

Fred is survived by his cherished wife of 53 years, Eleanor (Camara); their daughters Michelle Mahoney, Stephanie Federico, Candice Miller, Elinor Borges; and his dear son-in-laws John, Mark and Jason. He also leaves his 10 much-adored grandchildren, Sarah, Paul, Justin, Eric, Andrew, Brett, Blake, Olivia, Knox and Juda, as well as sisters Nancy Melies and Paula Luce, many loved nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Fred graduated in 1957 from Durfee High School and then proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force until 1962. Fred was employed by the State of R.I. until he retired in 2000. Fred loved his home in Portsmouth and was devoted to his family. He enjoyed boating, antique cars and home improvement projects but above all found the most joy in spending time with his grandchildren.

His funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the R.I. Veteran’s Home Chapel Fund, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI 02809.
