Girls' softball team has had success
To the editor:
I must correct your sports writer on statements he made a few weeks ago pertaining to the girls' softball team (which is having a great year!) trying to make the playoffs for the first time in seven years or so and have never been as far as the semifinals in the school's history.
My first year as girls' softball coach in 2000, with a team made up of mostly freshmen and sophomores, and led by seniors Diane Ferreira (pitcher) and Kelly Jann (catcher), the girls made it all the way to the semifinals, losing in double elimination to Exeter 3-1 and Tiverton 2-1. Those girls had a tremendous year and it would be remiss of me to not correct Adam.
We also made the playoffs three of the five years I coached, never winning less than seven games. The last year we made the playoffs was 2003, making the playoffs in 2000, 2001, and 2003. Anyway, good luck to this year's Lady Huskies!
