Westport shows hospitality

The youthful Westport all-star team was a gracious host when it and six other squads participated in the Devin Laubi Memorial 8 Year Old Friendship Tournament this past weekend.

Westport lost all four games it played but still managed to be competitive. Nick Oliveira and Mike Chicca each slapped singles when Westport lost to Tiverton 9-7 in the tourney opener. Tyler Souza and Austin Costa each scored three runs and Matt Murphy spiked the plate twice for the locals.

Westport went on to lose to Acushnet 10-9, in a game started Friday and finished Saturday because of thunderstorms which moved through the area Friday evening. Federal topped Westport 9-6 in its second Saturday game and South End felled the locals 14-4 in their final tournament clash. Rochester and South Plymouth rounded out the seven-team field.
