Scholarship program helps local families

To the editor:

As a parent of two school-aged children, I am writing to express my support for a new scholarship program that helps give families increased options for educating their children. It is called the Rhode Island Corporate Scholarship Tax Credit program.

Back in 2005, I had been referred to the Barrington Christian Academy by an alumnus of the school. After a visit and talk with the admissions coordinator, Beth Zins, I was convinced BCA would be a great fit for my children. Two year later I am more convinced than ever. They love their schoolmates, their teachers, and especially their classes. In addition, BCA has proven to develop academic excellence as shown by their recent New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) results. As a parent, it makes me feel good to know my children are in the learning environment that best meets their needs.

This opportunity would not have been possible without the tuition assistance I received from BCA. Many parents across the state don't consider school choice options, often due to financial restraints. This new corporate scholarship program will now give more families like mine the opportunity to apply for tuition assistance at more than 60 non-public schools in Rhode Island.

This program is giving many parents the freedom to pursue new educational opportunities for their children. I urge all parents interested in school choice options for their children to learn more about this important program by going to www.rischolarshipalliance.org.
