Speakout: Week of March 20
I have come from Roger Williams University. Their theater production of "The Fantastics," and it was fantastic. The mimes, performers, the music, it was all very wonderful. The harp, piano, percussion. It was a fantastic production. I feel bad for the people who didn't go.
I'm calling about the calls that are going to be made by the Roger Williams students for the comprehensive plan update. I'm wondering why this has to be anonymous. Is it going to be anonymous for the business people, the political people? People should be asked if they want to be anonymous, or if their names want to be printed. I think the medium, upper and lower class should all have a say. It should be equally spread out and it should be a public record. Otherwise how do we know who's making the suggestions?
I'm calling about the animal shelter. In response to the people who have left Speakouts, I believe that $2.2 million is not outrageous. I believe the animals surely deserve to be treated in a humane way. Diane Gibree and Jennifer Federico work very very hard along with the numerous volunteers. They work enormous hours even after their shifts to make things work. Please give this consideration. I highly support the animal shelter, and I believe the people of Bristol should also support it. It's really for a good cause.
I just want to say that I am appalled with the neighbors on Sampson Street. If they saw the warning signs, why didn't they call the DCYF? Shame on those neighbors.
About the animal shelter, $2.2 million is little to ask for to give the animals a decent place to live in this town, and the education center will be used to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. Irresponsible pet owners are the reason pet shelters exist in the first place. Isn't it nice that Friends of Foley is trying to fix the problem and not cover it up with a Band-Aid? If you took the time to look at the design, you would find out that it is not overbuilt. It is about time that the homeless animals of this town were considered.
I am commenting on the two men arrested back in February. The reason why I'm calling is that neighbors showed signs of concern, neighbors did call and families did call. They called DCYF, not the police. I just have to say fine job to Bristol police for putting those two men behind bars.
I'm calling because I have a neighbor who has a vicious rottweiler. Does Rhode Island have rottweiler insurance? I don't believe this animal is safe. I feel threatened, and I'm afraid for my children. Does Bristol or Rhode Island have ordinances on rottweilers, and how high should the fence be? Thank you.
This is Carol. I believe they should move the boat. The Herreshoff Museum design is a little bit better than a McDonald's building, for crying out loud. Who wants to look at that on our bayside? Put the boat there and put the building somewhere else. What about the traffic and all the parking down there?
Maybe that article was correct last week about the litter all around Bristol, especially downtown. I'm starting to side with the Bristol traditionalists who were so much against that donut shop on the corner of Hope Street and State Street. They certainly do a great job of contributing to the trash in downtown Bristol.
I have to agree, the town is full of trash, debris and leaves, especially in the historic part of Bristol. Even the catch basins are full of leaves and trash. The people on the outskirts of Bristol care for their property, and most people take pride and clean up the debris and trash. But why doesn't everyone clean up?
I guess EPA is investigating Bristol now. You know why? We have overburdened our system. You know why? Stone Harbour, the condos on Metacom, and now Robin Rug. They should have to provide their own containment system and filtering system within federal guidelines. It's not right.
Hey town council, guess what? Now that Robin Rug wants about 100 condos, they should have to put in their own sewer plant. You missed the boat on Stone Harbour and the Metacom condos, but Robin Rug should have to put their own in.
