Clock ticking for inclusion on veterans' honor roll
Bristol veterans who want their names added to the town's War Memorial Garden at the Burnside Memorial Building shown in front of the garden are Bristol Veterans Council officials Jack Sylvester and Steven Skuba have until April 15 to get on the list this year. So far this year, 34 veterans, most of whom served in Iraq, are slated to be added to the wall, which currently lists more than 3,000 veterans. The oldest addition is the late William S. Liscomb, a Bristolian who enlisted in the National Guard in May 1917 and was honorably discharged four months later, in September 1917. Discharge papers list his character during service as "excellent." In order to be included on the honor roll, veterans must have lived in Bristol at the time of their enlistment. Conflicts considered eligible include World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada, Panama, the Gulf wars and Bosnia and Afghanistan. For a complete list of requirements and allowable dates of service, call Bristol Veterans Council secretary S. Michael Minutelli at 253-9036, or Jack Sylvester, chairman of the council's honor roll commission, at 253-5888.
