Eileen P. Gonsalves
Home health aide and senior aide at Fall River Senior Center
Eileen P. (Hughes) Gonsalves, 75, of Westport died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at St. Anne's Hospital of complications from chemotherapy. She was the loving companion of Tony Borges of Westport.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Dutra) Hughes. She had lived in Fall River and Westport since 1970.
Mrs. Gonsalves was a retired home-health aide and a senior aide at the Fall River Senior Center on Pleasant Street until her illness. Her friendly and compassionate spirit will be missed by her family and the people whose lives she touched.
She leaves two sons, Mark Collins of Florida and Kevin Collins of New Bedford; two daughters, Cheryl Collins of West Warwick, R.I., and Susan Furtado and her husband, Wayne, of New Bedford; eight grandchildren, Jody Mottshaw, Tim Dwelly, Tracy Dwelly, Amy Dwelly, Rachel Collins, Asheley Furtado, Joshua Furtado and Aubrey Collins; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Helen Ciacci of New Bedford and Mary Pavlock of Acushnet; and a sister-in-law, Nilza Hughes.
She was the sister of the late Larry Hughes, Gerry Hughes and Lenny Hughes.
Her funeral service was on Friday, Aug. 20, at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
