Elementary school teacher in East Providence

Dorothy H. MacDuff, 85, of East Providence died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at the Orchard View Nursing Home in East Providence. She was the wife of Robert A. MacDuff and the late John D. Crouchley II, who was killed in World War II.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Howard C. and Winifred (Swarbrick) Barber, she lived in Barrington from 1954 to 1968, Simsbury, Conn., from 1968 to 1975, and Rehoboth from 1975 until moving to East Providence five years ago.

She had been an elementary school teacher in East Providence, retiring in 1954 when she re-married.

She graduated from the former Rhode Island State College, now the University of Rhode Island, in 1942.

She was a member of the Seekonk Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, was past president of the Barrington Jr. Womens Club and the Rehoboth Garden Club.

She was a member of the Rehoboth Congregational Church where she served on the flower committee and was a member of the WKB.

Besides her husband she leaves a brother, Howard C. Barber of Seekonk, Mass.; a sister, Winifred C. Halfrich of Wakefield; a grandson, John D. Crouchley IV of Barrington; and a granddaughter, Autumn Crouchley Williams of Hull, Mass. She was also the mother of the late John D. "Sandy" Crouchley III, and sister of the late Robert E. Barber and Ilene B. Lewis.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday at the Rehoboth Congregational Church. Burial was in North Burial Ground in Bristol.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Rehoboth Congregational Church would be appreciated.
