Raymond E. Chase, 94, of Portsmouth

World War II veteran, contractor, hard-working, honest, generous person

Raymond E. Chase, 94, of Portsmouth, R.I., died on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018.
Raymond was born in Fall River, Mass., to Joseph Rogers Chase and Eliza Gray (Sowle) Chase. He was raised by Eliza and his step-father, the late John H. Marshall.

Ray was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a corporal in the European Theater of Operations. Ray started his own contracting business in 1968.  He built high-end custom homes in the Narragansett Bay area.

Ray was someone everybody liked. He was always ready to help and no job was too big for him. He was the man who stopped on the highway to help someone in need and the man who plowed all the neighbors' driveways after a big snowstorm.

Ray was a hard-working, honest, friendly, courageous and generous man. Within his family, Dad, Gramp, or Uncle Ray was everyone's hero. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Raymond is survived by a brother, Elliott L. Marshall of Portsmouth, daughters Carolyn Waters of Eugene, Oregon, Barbara Ross of The Villages, Fla., Ann Marie Chase of Portsmouth, and Michael Chase of Ozark, Ala.; and five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Cora (Plante) Chase.

Burial services will be private.
