Portsmouth man arrested in alleged stabbing

PORTSMOUTH — A 24-year-old Portsmouth man was arrested early Friday morning after he allegedly stabbed a man at 32 Blue Bill Way.

Portsmouth Police officers responded to that address at about 12:40 a.m. Friday for a report than an individual had been stabbed, according to Detective Lt. Michael C. Arnold.

Police determined that Scott E. Bruneau, of 25 Maggie Lane, had been involved in an argument that escalated into a physical fight, Lt. Arnold said.

“This led to Bruneau brandishing a knife and stabbing the victim twice,” he said.

Mr. Bruneau was placed under arrest on the scene and charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

“The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for his injuries, which were reported as non-life-threatening,” Lt. Arnold said.
