To the editor:

The Portsmouth Trash Collaborative (portsmouthtrash@gmail.com) has negotiated a group rate for curbside trash pickup to help residents that need or want curbside pickup in Portsmouth. Residents that sign up in December will be locked into a rate of $35 per month for three years, with service beginning in January. The contract includes:

• Weekly trash pickup

• Bi-weekly recycling pickup

• Three-year contract with exit clauses, including moving/selling home, deployment, or the implementation of a town-wide curbside program

• Seasonal suspension of service offered for a $25 fee (e.g. snowbirds)

• 95-gallon waste bin and 95-gallon recycling bin included with no dropoff fee (bins remain property of the company — $50 replacement fee if lost, damaged, or stolen)

• Additional bulky waste pickup collected curbside, by appointment, for a fee ($15 small item, $25 large item)

• Hazardous waste and auto parts will not be accepted

• Yard waste pickup bi-weekly from April 1 to Dec. 15

• No environmental fees, no administration fees, no delivery fees, no recycling offset fees

Two signup events have been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9: Green Valley Country Club from 9 a.m. to noon and Portsmouth Publick House from 1-3 p.m. Come sign up in person, or call MTG Disposal directly at 508/336-8466 and mention the Portsmouth Trash Collaborative to secure your rate.

If your household already has curbside pickup or if you are looking for an alternative to the town's transfer station, sign up and join your neighbors! By working together we can all get a better deal, improve our recycling rates, reduce the number of garbage trucks on our roads, and decrease the number of individual round-trips required to collect our trash.
