Eagles rebound after loss, defeat South County

East Bay Co-op team improves to 8-1

Six different Eagles scored goals while helping the East Bay Co-op girls hockey team to a 7-3 win over South County on Wednesday night, Jan. 16.

Maeve Harrington opened the scoring for East Bay just 1:29 into the first period. She added her second goal about three minutes later. Maddie Cox and Katherine Barker also scored in the first period and helped the Eagles open a 4-0 lead against South County.

The South County team scored the last goal of the first period and the first of the second period, but Ella Hanley responded with a goal for the Eagles at the 13:32 mark of the second period.

Sara Yee and Marissa Levreault scored goals in the third period and helped the Eagles lock up the victory.

East Bay coach Michael Cox said he started a young lineup — all freshmen and sophomores — against South County. Coach Cox named goalie Zoey Despines and defenseman Layla Rappaleye players of the game.

The win over South County followed a tough 4-0 loss to LaSalle. Coach Cox said his team played hard, but struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities and also let in some "bad goals."

"They (LaSalle) came out and took it to us," said Coach Cox. "We had opportunities. Our goal scorers have to score.

"I think we were trying our best, I think it was just LaSalle's night. They got the monkey off their back. They were excited and it really showed late in the game. They've got so much more depth than us."

Coach Cox said he spent a lot of time thinking about his team's loss to LaSalle, and eventually realized "we're just going to have to work hard at this."

Coach Cox added additional off-ice practices for his team and scheduled some additional scrimmages.
