PORTSMOUTH — More than 100 residents were honored at Town Hall Monday night for their military service in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.

The honored veterans served between August 1990 and late-February 1991.

“Our residents served during a time when they had to be prepared to enter operations leading up to the liberation of Kuwait from the invading Iraqi forces,” said Town Council President Keith Hamilton, reading from a town proclamation. “These brave men and women were prepared to join coalition forces, led by the United States, in response to the dangers of Iraq’s invasion and remove Saddam Hussein’s army from Kuwait.”

The Town Council also proclaimed Nov 13-20 as “Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm Appreciation Week” in Portsmouth.
