Alleged road rage incident leads to accident in Portsmouth

Posted

A local man was arrested Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, following an alleged road rage incident, police said.

James E. Culipher, 47, of 68 Fountain Ave., was charged with disorderly conduct (offensive words at another) and reckless driving following a motor vehicle on East Main Road in the south end of town around 8 a.m.

According to Detective Lt. Michael Arnold, the incident started near Stubtoe Lane and ended in the area of Sandy Point Avenue.

Mr. Culipher tried to go around another vehicle by driving onto the side of the road, he said. His vehicle hit another car when he returned to the roadway, Lt. Arnold said.

“He was yelling and screaming at the other driver when we got there, and making a scene,” Lt. Arnold said. “It looks like it was a road rage kind of thing.”

No one was hurt in the accident, he said.
