To the editor:
In last week’s edition of the Post, an article presented the question, “What has Rose really done?” When I am faced with a question, I am impelled to attempt to find the answer or answers. I actually found this question easy to answer. I realize it was a bit of a sarcastic question and it really did lead up to an opinionate letter that’s main purpose was to discredit another political official and to endorse the candidate running against him in the upcoming Nov. 6 election. We are all getting use to that type of letter because being the time of year a political tone gets set for most of the articles we read.
Councilman Rose remains a very active and vital part of our community. He not only supports business and looks to increase the number of them in our city his family own and operates a few replicable business here and have for years. He is also raising his son here and working to better the community so all of our children have a better place to live. Councilman Rose supports community projects both openly and privately along with his family contributing time, service and financial support. While his main focus is the Ward 3 area he has made every effort to support the East Providence Community as a whole and strives to help all EP residents.
I think it’s very important to state the job of a councilperson is not that of a congressperson. These titles do sound alike but in reality are quite different. Residents look to their councilmember’s to resolve local issues. They look for their roads to be passable, their schools to educate, their garbage to be collected and their local taxes to be well spent. They want their children to receive what they themselves received and more when possible. They want to call City Hall when they have a problem and be able to get an answer. They expect the snow to be plowed so they can get to work and to the store. All these things Councilman Rose agrees with and has spent the last two years working diligently to help make a reality in our city. Because he isn’t a congressperson, somethings are still unfortunately not in his reach.
However, I am looking for a councilperson, a person who lives in my neighborhood, understands my daily needs and is responsive. The problem we have in politics and what has gotten us the financial problems we are currently in has been electing those that were more interested in getting re-elected to a higher position than they were in doing their current job. I’m one of those many people that you spoke about in your letter who will be supporting Tommy Rose in November because he is a good COUNCILPERSON. I encourage all my friends and family to do the same because Councilman Rose is someone who also has the intelligence, the passion and the drive to get this city back on track, and he is someone who WILL continue to support the residents of this great City.
