Turnout for Fourth of July 50’s dance was “a disgrace”

To the editor:
I attended the 50’s dance on Saturday, October 27, 2012 put on by the Bristol 4th of July committee. The turnout of approximately 50 people was an absolute disgrace. The first date that was set for the dance was canceled due to lack of ticket sales and the October date did not fare any better.

You hear of people praising our 4th of July celebration, but none of it would be possible without the support of the residents of Bristol and when the buckets are passed at the parade having people from all over the country donate so generously. There are over 100 members of the 4th of July Committee and only a handful showed up at the dance. How do you all expect participation from locals if you can’t even support your own cause?

Also, maybe if the tickets were made more available by having them sold in a few local businesses, people would be more apt to buy them rather than having to call a committee member.

I truly enjoy these dances and our 4th celebration, so let’s keep it going by doing our part to support the many fund raising functions that make our 4th of July so special!
