Thanks to all braved showers to Walk for Westport

To the editor:

On Saturday, Sept. 15, thanks to the efforts of many, the second annual Walk for Westport was a grand success. This event was sponsored jointly by the Friends of the Westport Council on Aging and the Westport Education Foundation.   This walk was dedicated to the memory of Rosemary Lenrow, the founder of the fundraising idea.

Despite the rain showers, close to 75 participants dedicated their morning to strolling the 3.5 mile walking route located in beautiful Westport Harbor.  A family fun event followed the walk, including food, children’s crafts and games, Skip Daniels the Magician, and Al Deston Music.  Community spirit was soaring through the ocean air and it was a day that all members of the Westport community could be proud of.

On behalf of the entire Walk for Westport Committee, we thank each and every one of you that contributed to the success of this heartwarming day.  A special thank you to our sponsors, without whom funding for this event would not have been possible:  BayCoast Bank, Lees Market, Prima Care, Rosemary’s Family, Rosemary’s Friends, Westport Business to Business, Arruda Insurance, Bradshaw Insurance Agency, Country Woolens, En L’Air School of Dance, Even Keel Realty, JF Moran, Lapointe Insurance, Law Offices of Brian R. Corey, Meganet, Partners Village Store, Quality Maintenance, Screencraft Tileworks, South Shore Dry Dock Marine, The Law Offices of Christopher Abreu, Ten Cousins, Tim’s Lawn Care, Ustinov Jewelers, Westport Apothecary.

Plans are already under way for next year’s Walk for Westport in September of 2013.  Come walk with us!  To learn more about these worthwhile community organizations that benefit from this event, please visit: westport-ma.com/coa and westporteducationfoundation.com.
