Thanks for Making Mass Casualty Drill A Huge Success

Thanks for Making Mass Casualty Drill A Huge Success

To the editor:

On Sunday, Oct. 13, in celebration of Fire Prevention Week, the Warren Fire Department hosted a “Mass Casualty Incident”drill at Jamiel’s Park which simulated a school bus collision with two passenger cars. This event provided valuable training opportunities for our department and several area departments and was made feasible through donations and the spirit of volunteerism.

I would like to express my gratitude to Navigant CEO Gary Furtado, as well as Cidalia Rocha, Ross Silva and Jay Moniz for formally sponsoring the event. Without their sponsorship an event of this type simply would not have been possible. I would also like to thank Ms. Joy Johnson of First Student for their donation of the school bus as well as Jack’s Salvage for their donation of the passenger vehicles and towing services.  Thanks are also in order for Papa Gino’s restaurant in Warren for their donation of a multitude of pizzas as well as the members of the Civil Air Patrol and the Boy Scouts who played very convincing victims during the ordeal.

Special thanks are in order for fire training consultant Peter Lamb for conducting an MCI class and for overseeing this event. Last but not least I’d like to thank all those who participated including the Warren, Bristol, Barrington and Swansea fire departments (especially Chief Peter Burke), the Providence Canteen, and Alert Ambulance Company.
