To the editor:
Today I reflected on how fortunate I am to live in the town of Bristol.
Looking around at our neighbors, I believe we got through Hurricane Sandy relatively unscathed. But I can assure all our residents that we were prepared for virtually anything that may have come our way.
Bristol’s public safety departments, under the capable leadership of Police Chief Canario and Fire Chief Martin, did an excellent job of responding to every need in our community before, during and after the hurricane. Our Department of Public Works under Director Jim Galuska worked throughout the storm to ensure that our streets were cleared and our residents were out of harm’s way. Our Wastewater Treatment Facility, under the direction of Superintendent Jose DaSilva, kept a watchful eye on our plant and pump stations to make sure that all was operating properly. And our Harbormaster, Joe Cabral and his able assistants worked diligently to get vessels removed from our harbor and to secure what could not be removed.
All in all, Bristol is functioning fully today just two days after Sandy hit us. I offer my thanks and congratulations to our town departments for an exceptional job. I know I speak for all our residents when I tell you how much your efforts are appreciated.
