Presidential parade produced lifelong memories for Marching Band

To the editor:

I was privileged to accompany the Portsmouth Marching Band on their recent trip to Washington, DC to perform in the Presidential inauguration parade. I would like to thank Principal Littlefield for his support of the trip, as well as Band Director Ted Rausch, and Assistant Directors Tim Marum, Donna Valente and Lisa Mailloux. I would also like to thank the Portsmouth Music Booosters and Booster President Jim Wilkinson for their work in making this a reality.  It was an amazing experience and the students were quite impressed with the event and with seeing President Obama.

I would also like to thank the Aquidneck Island community for their support both in word, deed and contributions. Virtually everyone on the island and beyond seemed to be truly happy for the kids to have this opportunity.  The media coverage was fantastic from both the Daily News and the Sakonnet Times in print as well as channels 6, 10, 12 and 64 on television and a host of radio stations.

There are many more people to thank than can be included in this type of letter. Suffice to say that a real team effort resulted in a memorable event for the Marching Band members.
