The August 23 appearance of the Governor and his staff at Portsmouth Town Hall gave the residents of Portsmouth and other communities the opportunity to confront state officials on their rash and totally unfair decision to put a toll on the Sakonnet River Bridge.
Citizens came out in force, carrying signs and addressing the governor with their economic plight, — a toll would seriously affect small businesses, workers, students and all of the citizens who conduct personal affairs in adjacent towns. This issue has touched a nerve with everyone.
To see so much involvement truly made me proud to be part of the Portsmouth community. Thank you to all who took the time to come and voice your concerns. We need to keep up the pressure and turn out at every opportunity to question this decision. See you there.
