Voting yes on question 1 will give the town more than double the funds required by the charter for our general fund. My question is why do we need millions more in unrestricted funds? What spending do these people have in mind? Why do we always have to increase taxes?
Voting yes on question 2 will keep more than adequate funds in our general fund as required by our charter and do something unheard of — keep the taxes at zero increase. Can you imagine what this will do for people wanting to relocate to this area or potential business coming to town? It might even change the reputation Tiverton has earned as unfriendly to business.
We had about $4 million in our general fund last year and we have been adding to it every year, I think it is about time the Tiverton taxpayers get a break with a zero tax increase so we can add to our families’ general fund. The only way this can happen is to get out and vote yes on question 2 and stop complaining about tax increases. Get out and vote, it is the only way to make a difference.
