Letter: Portsmouth woman keeps memorials looking good

To the editor:

In (the May 27) Providence Journal there was an article, “Across America, war memorials slide into decay.”

I just wanted everyone to know that here in Portsmouth, that is not happening because of a wonderful person named Carolyn Evans-Carbery, who by herself took on the job several years ago of maintaining the World War I Monument in front of Town Hall in Portsmouth. She just got through redoing the entire thing including sifting the dirt for rocks and other things.

Friday of Memorial Day weekend, a wreath was laid with a ceremony by the Portsmouth Garden Club and the 375th Portsmouth committee.
