To the editor:

If you ask Wilbur McMahon School students what they want to be when they grow up, their answers will vary. But the one thing they all have is a dream.

The Little Compton Education Foundation (LCEF) believes all children should have access to the educational tools they need to help them achieve their dreams. Great strides have already been made. Thanks to donors like you, the Little Compton Education Foundation (LCEF) has funded over $79,000 in educational enrichment programs and equipment for Wilbur McMahon School students since 2005.

We’ve now taken on a new challenge and we need your help. To fully equip and furnish the newly renovated Wilbur McMahon School when it reopens next year, the LCEF is kicking off the Dream, Believe, Achieve Fundraising Campaign with a goal of raising $50,000 within the next year.

To get things started, the Little Compton Education Foundation has dedicated $25,000 from its cash reserves to start this fundraising campaign. Donations are needed to purchase educational tools like a ductless fume hood and mobile cart for the science lab; bookcases for the new media center/library; instrument storage units for the band room; and a number of other items.  Funding is specifically needed in these priority areas:

• Science: $10,652

• Media Center/Library: $19,310

• Art: $4,810

• Band & Music: $4,630

For a complete description of items on the Wilbur McMahon School Furnishings, Fixtures and Equipment Wish List, please contact LCEF at info@lceducationfoundation.org.

Additional items such as a new lighting system and flame retardant curtain for the stage in the school gymnasium are also needed. Currently, our fundraising efforts are targeted on providing the priority items most needed when the school reopens. But we welcome the chance to meet more of the school’s needs through this capital campaign.

Can you please help us reach our fundraising goal?  Tax deductible donations are gladly accepted and can be mailed to Little Compton Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1010, Little Compton, RI 02837.

Your donation can truly make a difference. Each contribution will provide Little Compton students with the educational tools they need to dream, believe and achieve!
