375th Portsmouth birthday plunge a big success

To the editor:

The kickoff event for celebrating the Town of Portsmouth’s 375th birthday year was the “375 Polar Dive” at noon on New Year’s Day. It was a tremendous success with an estimated 500 plungers and spectators lining the Island Park beach seawall.

Following the plunge, The Beach House Bar and Grill hosted a buffet generously donated by the following Portsmouth restaurants: Carmella’s, Chase Pizza and Deli, China Gourmet, Clements’ Marketplace, Custom House Coffee, Dunkin’ Donuts (East Main Roadd), Dunkin’ Donuts (West Main Roadd), Fieldstones, 15 Point Road, Food Works, New China, North End Pizza, Ports Abbey Dining Services, Reidy’s Restaurant, Rocco’s Little Italy and Steve’s Famous Pizza.

Thanks also to the Portsmouth Fire and Police Departments for traffic control and rescue services and a special “warm” thanks to the bonfire crew: Bill Cotter, Chris Freitas, Rob Hill, Andrew Thompson and Jamie Toner.
