We received an unusual package in the mail recently, from a reader in Florida. Patricia Cox mailed us a letter, written April 23, 1945, from a soldier overseas to his buddy back home in Bristol. The letter was written by Joseph Machado Jr., who was stationed in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
It was mailed to Johnny Paiva, of 31 Second St., Bristol. Mr. Paiva was Patricia Cox’s father.
She mailed it to the Phoenix with this note: “This letter was sent to my father in 1945. I wondered if a family member would like to have it.”
If anyone knows a relative of Joseph Machado Jr., please have them contact us here. Ask for Scott Pickering at 253-6000, ext. 106.
