Last week I posed some questions that were supposed to tell you if you lean Republican or Democrat. Granted, the answers are solely my idea as to what affiliation you are. You have also voted by now so you know if this is a true test as a result of your actual voting. Here goes! Answers are in parentheses.
You may have seen the congressional study that in 2009, 2,362 millionaires received unemployment checks. More than 1,000 of them had a household adjusted gross income of $1.5 million. Do you agree that they should be barred since they have enough of a reserve and sending money that provides welfare to the wealthy undermines the program and escalates the debt (Democrats), or that millionaires get unemployed, too, and have made payments into the unemployment insurance (Republicans)?
Do you agree that everyone should be taxed at the same rate with no deductions or exemptions (Democrats no, Republicans yes)?
Do you think that government officials have to get us out of our job predicament (Democrats) or whether the road to recovery is up to individual citizens (Republicans)?
With some studies saying that a father reading to his son improves the male child’s future success, should fathers be chastened for spending nights watching ESPN (Democrats no, Republicans yes)?
You can now download an app, take a picture of a check, hit send and then have it deposited into your account without stepping foot into a bank. Is this a wonderful development (Republicans) or does it eliminate jobs which is bad (Democrats)?
If a product made in China is less expensive than its USA counterpart and about the same quality but a little less so, do you buy the less-expensive one? (Both Democrats and Republicans would buy the less-expensive product, but Democrats would rationalize the purchase.)
Do you think you should have your mortgage paid off before retirement (Republicans) or should you keep it and have liquid savings in other accounts (Democrats)?
Is public assistance and eligibility for food stamps too easy to secure (Democrats no, Republicans yes)?
Did you dress up for Halloween, and, if so, did you make your costume (Democrats) or wear one already commercially made (Republicans, but you probably didn’t dress up)?
Is sending holiday cards a chore (Republicans) or fun (Democrats)?
Do you think unions run the state of Rhode Island (Republicans) or are their strengths necessary to secure livable wages and good working conditions for everyone (Democrats)?
David Scharfenberg of The Providence Phoenix wrote an exposé of how the state’s weak system for vetting contractors allows millions of dollars to flow to companies with poor environmental and workplace safety records. Is your reaction one of that’s how it is in Rhode Island (Democrats) or that this is a disgrace (Republicans)?
Here’s my bias in posing these questions. I believe that there really are very few independent voters in Rhode Island, so that’s why there’s no option for them in this quiz. People who say they are independent are usually Democrats who forgive themselves for occasionally voting for a Republican.
Now here’s the acid test for your political leaning. When you voted for the 1st Congressional candidate last week, did you vote for the individual (Republicans) or did the party to which that person belonged tilt your vote (Democrats)?Add to favorites
