Born in Colliers, WV, on December 15, 1936, he was the son of the late Ralph and Helen (Welshans) Costic.
“Sticks” was a retired firefighter and a special police officer for the town of Portsmouth.
After retiring from the Fire Department, he worked as a school bus driver for Laidlaw. He also worked as a custodian and maintenance man for St Philomena’s School and at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport as a security guard. He could fix everything but a cat.
He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and Sakonnet/Portsmouth Sportsman’s Club. He was also a past member of the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club, and was active in many other civic organizations over the years.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Christy Taylor of San Diego, Calif., Brian Costic of Denton, Md., Laurie Farrea of Portsmouth, and Leslie Costic; his grandchildren, Tara Freeman, Lauren, Brett, and Julia Castonguay, Katherine and Colin Davis, Benjamin Farrea, and Jeremy Franco; and his great grandchildren, Bailey and Audrey Freeman. He is also survived by his brother Royce Costic, and he leaves his faithful dog Óscar. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Costic.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 5-8 p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. His funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 29, at 9 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Anthony’s Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
