Romeo Rudolph Lambert, 80, of Little Compton, formerly Tiverton, beloved husband and best friend of Nancy for 46 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014.
Born in Montreal, Canada, Romeo came to the US as a young boy, and graduated from Killingly High School, Conn. He immediately joined the US Army 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper during the Korean War. Romeo continued to be active in veterans’ issues throughout his life with the American Legion – Post 37, Little Compton, as a past commander. He worked for J&J Corrugated Box, Pioneer Finishing, and Tamer Industries, and retired at age 76.
He also continued to volunteer in leadership roles in organizations whenever possible to help out our community. Whether it was within the Catholic organization Knights of Columbus (former state district deputy for eight years, former Faithful Navigator Joseph Boehr Council Tiverton, past Grand Knight Tiverton Council 94, St. Catherine of Siena Church Choir), community-agriculture support (various offices in Little
Compton Grange, Newport County Pomona, and member RI State Grange, Seaconnet No. 37 I.O.O.F.), or community sports (Tiverton and Little League volunteer umpire 16 years, many local bowling, pool, pitch, and horseshoe leagues, RI Senior Games), Romeo could always be counted on to help others. In addition,
he was also an active member of Portsmouth and Tiverton Senior Centers, Westport R.O.M.E.O.s, and Fall River Elks, and loved to go to dances with his wife and many friends.
A single life produces much radiance when that person follows his dream, tries to do what is right, and refuses to let obstacles stand in his way. The world is a better place for his having lived.
Romeo is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters Suzette Wordell and husband Russell of Little Compton, and Nicolette Pratt and Daniel of Maine; son Peter of New York; grandson Benjamin Wordell; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was Sunday from 4- 8 p.m. His Funeral will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. from the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton, with a 12:30 p.m. Mass at St Catherine of Sienna Church in Little Compton.
