Robert R. “Mickey” Silva, 83, of DeWolf Avenue, Bristol, died on July 4, 2014 at RI Hospital, Providence. He was the loving husband of Dorothy (Muciaro) Silva, his wife of 61 years.
Born in East Providence, where he was a resident before moving to Bristol 20 years ago, he was a son of the late Jesse and Anna (Ciccio) Silva. Mr. Silva, along with his wife, owned and operated the Hope Diner on Hope Street in Bristol for 32 years. Besides fishing, golfing, yard sales and flea markets, Mickey loved cooking for his family and many friends he met while at the diner.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Robert R. Silva, Jr., of Bristol, Bruce Silva and Barbara Crowley-Silva of West Warwick, Richard Silva and his wife Debra (Moore) Mathias-Silva of Coventry and Lorene Silva of Bristol; three grandchildren, Paula DeSousa-Rosa, Kenneth Mathias and his wife Jessica, and Matthew Mathias and his wife Debe; three great grandchildren, Emidio DeSousa-Rosa, Seanna Mathias and Nolan Mathias; sisters and brothers, Anna Coia of Johnston, Grace Smith of North Carolina, Ethel Jacob of East Providence, Helen Tavares of Pawtucket and Roy Silva of East Providence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service Friday, July 11, at 8 p.m. in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will be private. Calling hours Friday from 4-8 p.m.
