He leaves his beloved wife of 57 years Ann (Sullivan) Burch and their three children, Robin Burch, Robert G. Burch II and Kevin Burch.
He leaves five grandchildren, Erin A. Mantoosh, Gary A. Mantoosh II, Robert G. Burch III, Ashley Burch and Ian T. Burch. He also leaves an extended family consisting of three brothers, three sisters in Pennsylvania, Arizona and Oklahoma, his former son in-law, Gary A. Mantoosh of Florida along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Fred.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was also a Private Pilot, a charter member of the Tiverton Rotary Club, a member of the Portsmouth Art Guild and an avid gardener. A URI trained Master Gardener; he greatly enjoyed volunteering as a “dirt-person” especially at the Veteran’s Home in Bristol. Mr. Burch was also honored with a Citizenship Award from the VFW.
Mr. Burch had a long and successful career as a retail executive, first with the former Anderson-Little Company beginning as their first general manager where he rose to become corporate vice president of operations and sales after the company’s merger with Richman Brothers of Cleveland, a 300-plus store subsidiary of the F.W.Woolworth Co. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Richman Brothers, and a member of their pension committee. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Kinney Shoe Corporation. After 25 years, he returned to retail, first as a consultant, then as executive vice president and general manager of Vogue Alley Inc, of California. He then returned to Rhode Island to begin his retirement. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bob’s nurse Nora from Gentiva Hospice for her care and compassion.
Calling hours are respectfully omitted as it was Bob’s wish to be cremated and his Funeral Mass to be private.
